Writing Poll: Biggest Fears...Also, Cookies!

  1. Don't need to send me a cookie. Just eat it and enjoy.
For me, I just wish more people read my genre.

  2. I'm scared of all these things and that I couldn't write anything good on deadline.

  3. Every now and then, I'd think of one of the points you'd mention and heave a long sigh. Mostly, I stress over finding time to write and doing all the other things I need to do outside of my writing life.

  4. I definitely wish more people read my genre, but meh, I love it and really that's what matters.

  5. I'm scared of not being good enough. Of course a lot of that fear comes back to writing papers in school. I missed the instructions on how to do that, so I would get D papers and then A papers and to me I couldn't tell why one paper sucked and the other didn't. It's made me worried about my fiction writing.

  7. Alex - Woo, more cookies for me! I know what you mean about wishing for more readers in a genre...which makes sense since I think we're in similar genres. :)

Natalie - Yes! The deadline angle is a good addition to the list. That's really tough for a lot of writers. Thankfully, my years in PR have beat that fear out of me.

    Cynthia - Amen!

Lynda - I agree. Write for those readers who love your genre, even if it's a slightly smaller pool than some others. They will love you for it!

Cherie - Haha, that kind of see-sawing would give me some doubts too. But I don't think you need to worry too much about your fiction. Seems like you're on a roll!

Lady Lilith - Me too. *Sends encouragement and hugs to all fellow writers*

  8. What? A cookie?!!! I voted! I voted! I'm definitely afraid of not being good enough. I have a few moments of feeling brilliant, but that's not anywhere near the majority of the time. This year I'll be querying and that scares me too... because I think I might not be good enough!

  9. My writing fears vary from time to time, which is lots of fun to deal with. Sort of like Whack the Mole. ;-)

  10. I'm with you, 2 and 5 describe my fears and frustrations the best. The writing balance is hard with so many competing priorities and promotion after the book's release is a monster. I'll just keeping working and learning as much as I can. And I love cookies! :)

  11. What a coincidence! I also wrote about fears, but my post is more related to the psychology of fear. I guess we writers share with artists our deep insecurities. It isn't easy to create something that comes from inside you, and then let it into the world to be admired, adored, or hated. We are brave fellas, too. ;-)

  12. My biggest fear is getting mean reviews or feedback. constructive feedback is wonderful, even when it hurts, but the meanness i often see in reviews on Goodreads? Really terrifying. Almost makes me lean toward self publishing, where for some reason the reviews don't seem as harsh?
