It's a short week here in the States, thanks to the Labor Day holiday, so I figured we'd stick with the "short" theme and talk about short stories.
- Do you guys read 'em?
- Do you like them individually or put together in an anthology?
- Where do you get them?
I'll admit this isn't an area where I read much, but I've been seeing some intriguing ones crop up as e-shorts, and I'm curious.
Just leave your thoughts in the comments trail!

I don't mind short stories now and again, and I don't mind if they are individual or in an anthology - but usually I prefer longer stories. :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'm weird, but I *love* writing flash fiction, but hate reading short stories...
ReplyDeleteI read some short stories but I sure can't write them.
ReplyDeleteI do write them from time to time. I enjoying reading short stories, too. It's a break between bigger novels. I've noticed a lot of novellas popping up recently, too.
ReplyDeleteI personally do not write them or read them that often, though that's not because I don't like them. I love a good short story, but I often find myself wanting more of the story and am dissappointed when it ends so quickly. I also always get stuck with writing short stories, because even when I intend to write them the idea usual spirals out of control and somehow becomes a novel lol.
ReplyDeleteI have tagged you in the 'The Next Big Thing' meme on my blog to :)
I have a lot of trouble writing short stories - I can never think of an idea 'small enough' to fit a short story. I also very rarely read them. I feel like there isn't really time to create world or character in the space of a short story.
ReplyDeleteI do read short stories, but not usually. I tend to just read them if I know the author from longer works and really like them, such as Peter Dickinson and Robin McKinley.
ReplyDeleteI read shorts and enjoy them tremendously! As a reader I would just about read all lengths!
ReplyDeleteThanks guys - lots of good insights! I'm usually drawn to reading and writing ridiculously long epics, but every once in a while, a good short is just the thing.
