Wicked is back in Milwaukee!! And, in honor, I thought I’d throw out one of my favorite quotes as it always reminds me a bit of writing.
Getting your dreams, it’s strange but it seems a little, well…complicated.
There’s a kind of a sort of a…cost
(Long hours spent typing, editing, banging your head against a keyboard)
There’s a couple things get…lost
(Sleep, sanity)
There are bridges you cross you didn’t know you’d cross until you crossed
(I wrote a query! I pitched an agent in person!)

But then you reach the end, and you really and truly “Couldn’t be happier!”
If you've seen Wicked, what's your favorite part? If you haven't, do you want to?
Haven't seen Wicked yet but like how you relate it to writing.
ReplyDeleteI've seen Wicked twice. Love the big moment, of course, during Defying Gravity. Gave me goosebumps the first time I saw it. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm "this" close to finishing my current WIP. End of August I think. :)
I want to see that show so much! It looks great. :)
ReplyDeletei need to see another epic musical... well, we are seeing shrek the musical at a dinner theater on vacay in florida =)
ReplyDeleteand celebrate!! tell people who can relate!
What do I do to celebrate? Get some sleep. :)
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen Wicked yet.
ReplyDeleteI celebrate by going out to eat. My wife likes that as well.
Hey:)
ReplyDeleteRecently finished WIP#1 (as in it's on the way to a professional editor) so I am very excited.
I start WIP#2 tonight :)
I saw Wicked about four years ago. It was awesome! I just finished my latest WIP. I ate ice cream and wept that I had to start revising it. =P
ReplyDeleteImpressive performance. I'm an "other" on the poll. When I completed my draft of The Bonding, I wandered stupidly from room to room until I finally fell asleep. I relished the satisfaction, but knew the real work was just ahead.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed that you pitched to an agent in person. I've yet to do that.
ReplyDeleteSheena-kay - It's a great show!
ReplyDeleteL.G. - I'll keep my fingers crossed for that August deadline.
Rachel - The soundtrack is ridiculously addicting. :)
Tara - This would be a great epic musical for you.
David - What is this sleep thing you speak of? That is probably the very best way to celebrate. Ever.
Alex - That's a great way to treat yourself!
Mark - Congrats! I'm so excited for you. A friend of a friend is an opera student and I've been talking up your book. ;)
Christine - Hopefully the ice cream made a nice buffer of sweet creamy goodness between you and starting those edits!
Jeff - Haha, I did the wandering stupidly between rooms in disbelief when I got my first full request. It is a totally acceptable form of celebration. ;)
Stina - Um...I actually haven't yet. *grins sheepishly* I totally made that up as a random example - but I'd love to get the chance!
The thought of pitching to an agent in person ties me up in knots. I never had to actually do it, thank goodness. Sending query letters was bad enough. Yikes. And I love your Wicked quotes and commentary! Thanks for sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteI've not seen Wicked yet, but I'd like to (I've heard a ton of good things about it). Those are some good WIP celebration ideas too :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Wicked.
ReplyDeletecongrats writing that query and pitching in person!! Not easy tasks. What am I saying????!! Nothing to do with writing is easy! ;)
I LOVE Wicked. I should really try to see it before it leaves!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Wicked. I am impressed that you pitched to a real live agent! I'd be too nervous to do that and I'd sound really dumb.
ReplyDeleteAnd wahoo, I'm a giveaway winner - thank you so much!
Congrats to the winner! And I love Wicked! It's so awesome, and I enjoy singing to the soundtrack of the musical.
