Below, in no particular order, are some of the characters that have sparked my imagination repeatedly over the years:
- Kyle Reese – Terminator
- Sarah Connor – T2
- Leelu – The Fifth Element
- Selene – Underworld
- Bowen – Dragonheart
- Anyone and everything from Prince of Thieves
- Sean Astin
I am completely unashamed that a ridiculous number of my favorite movie speeches come from him. :)
How about you? Do you have any favorites?
Astin's speech in The Goonies was pretty awesome (to be fair, everything about that movie was awesome).

Oh, I just realized that my inspirations come mostly from animated charaters. Kind of scary, really.
ReplyDeleteI loved the Goonies! lol
ReplyDeleteAll great charaacters. I loved Mr. Darcy at the end of the recent version of Pride & Prejudice. When he said "I love, love you", I actually believed it.
I went straight to the sexy chick in a zombie movie. I need to retrain my brain:s Although for romance, at least in my book, nothing beats Charlie Chaplin' s character in City Lights. The end of that film gets me every time.
ReplyDeleteAndy Dufresne, from Shawshank Redemption, was the first character in my head. I never tire of watching that movie.
ReplyDeleteIt ate my first comment. I'll just add Indiana Jones from Raiders.
ReplyDeleteI still love The Road Warrior and Braveheart, despite the ass who stars in them. Both of those movies inspire what I'm writing now. Weird, I know, but it is set in post-apocalyptic Wales. :))
ReplyDeleteJamie - Goonies-fan high fives!
ReplyDeleteT - Haha, don't worry. I have some of those too. :)
Miranda - Good one!
Emily - Isn't it great when characters and scenes stick with us like that?
Jenn - Nice addition.
Alex - Sorry about the comment monster. I adore Indy! There's a chance I might still want to BE him. :)
L.G. - Braveheart is near the top of my list too!
Watching Pride and Prejudice inspires me, but none of the characters fit in my world. :/
ReplyDeleteI don't generally watch shows/movies in the same genre I write (there aren't that many fantasy shows/movies), and usually when I watch TV I'm tired or really bored, so I'm not really in the mindset to be inspired. When I read it's a different story.
Ripley - The Alien series, and Sean Astin from Goonies also! :)
ReplyDeleteI really love Han Solo and Clint Eastwood's "the man with no name" character and Josie Wales. I like the dark heroes.
ReplyDelete"This is our time, right here!" Love it! :)
